Getting started
Find your way around the app
Once you're signed in there are four places: Lessons, Tutors, Work and Inbox. Everything else is under More.
Why we ask who you are before your first message
Before your first message goes to a tutor we ask your name, whether you're a parent, an adult learner or a student, and the student's year level. A tutor should know who is writing to them.
Put the app on your phone and turn on notifications
Tutor Marketplace installs from your browser, with no app store. Once it's on your phone you can get a notification when a tutor replies or a lesson is about to start.
Finding a tutor
Search for a tutor and narrow the list
Find a tutor lists every verified tutor. Filter by subject, year level, online or in person, and how close they are to you.
What the verified tags on a tutor mean
Before a tutor appears in Find a tutor we check their profile, a document that supports their academic history, and their Working with Children Check.
Save tutors to compare later
Tap the bookmark on any tutor to keep them in a shortlist. It works before you've made an account too.
Book a seat in a group class
Some tutors run small group classes. You can take a seat in one session, or join a weekly class and pay for each session as it comes up.
Booking and paying
Message a tutor before you book
Messaging is free. Ask about your child's needs, the tutor's approach or a time that suits, then book when you're ready.
Book a lesson
Pick a time from the tutor's calendar and pay. The lesson is confirmed straight away, with no waiting for the tutor to accept.
Pay online, or pay your tutor in person
You can always pay online by card. If a tutor prefers cash or a bank transfer, the booking page offers that too and you choose.
Accept an offer from a tutor
A tutor can send you an offer inside your conversation: a set time at a set price, or a package of lessons. Paying for it is how you accept.
Buy and use a lesson package
A package is 5 or 10 lessons with one tutor, paid for once and booked one at a time whenever suits you.
Save or replace a card
A saved card pays for an offer from your tutor in one tap. It is charged only when you choose to pay with it.
Your lessons
Join an online lesson
The way into an online lesson opens 10 minutes before it starts: our classroom, or the tutor's own meeting link if that's where the lesson is.
Cancel a lesson and get your refund
Every tutor sets their own notice period and late fee. Before you confirm, we show the exact amount that comes back to you.
Move a lesson to another time
Outside the tutor's notice period you can move a lesson yourself to any free time on their calendar in the next eight weeks, at no cost.
If you miss a lesson
If you don't attend a lesson and didn't cancel, your tutor can record it as missed and their no-show fee applies. The policy is shown when you book and pay, and on your booking confirmation.
Where your money is until the lesson happens
When you pay online we hold the money. It goes to your tutor once you confirm the lesson happened, or by itself 24 hours after the lesson ends.
Confirm a lesson happened and leave a review
After a lesson, Lessons asks two small things: did it go ahead, and how was it. Both take a tap.
Report a problem with a tutor or a lesson
You can report a tutor from their profile or from your conversation with them, and you can always write to us directly.
Work and your account
Hand in work and get it back marked
The Work tab holds what your tutor set, what you've handed in and what has come back, along with the files, notes and whiteboards from your lessons.
Read a progress update, and send them to a parent
A tutor can send a short progress update: a level in each subject, effort, a comment, and the work marked since the last one.
A link your tutor sent you
A tutor you already work with may send a link to add your details, or a link in an email to hand in work. Neither needs an account.
