Tasmania uses the TCE — Tasmanian Certificate of Education — with senior subjects offered at different TASC levels (Level 3 subjects count toward the ATAR, Level 2 and lower do not). The smaller scale of Tasmanian education means finding specialist tutors locally can be harder than in the mainland capitals, which is where online tutoring becomes particularly useful.
English is the other universally compulsory subject in Australian schools, and like maths, it's a skill that compounds over years of schooling. Our English tutors work on the specific skills that matter at each year level — from primary reading comprehension to VCE English Language analysis to HSC Extension essays.
English is the only subject compulsory for every student in every state right through Year 12. Because of this, its ATAR scaling and university weighting makes it one of the most impactful subjects in a student's senior marks. Strong writing also carries into almost every other subject — history, legal studies, and extended-response science questions all reward clear prose.
The gap in English is usually not reading ability but critical analysis — understanding how texts work, not just what they say. Students often plateau at Band 4 or a C because they haven't been taught to unpack techniques, structure arguments, and develop sophisticated thesis statements.
An English tutor can work through one essay at a time with the student — editing it with them, explaining what's working and what isn't, and teaching the patterns that examiners actually reward. Most students lift at least one grade band within a term of regular sessions.
