English Tutoring Online
English is the other universally compulsory subject in Australian schools, and like maths, it's a skill that compounds over years of schooling. Our English tutors work on the specific skills that matter at each year level — from primary reading comprehension to VCE English Language analysis to HSC Extension essays.
What your tutor can cover
- Reading comprehension and inference
- Essay structure and thesis development
- Literary techniques and analysis
- Creative writing and voice
- Close reading of prose, poetry, and drama
- Comparative text analysis
Why english matters
English is the only subject compulsory for every student in every state right through Year 12. Because of this, its ATAR scaling and university weighting makes it one of the most impactful subjects in a student's senior marks. Strong writing also carries into almost every other subject — history, legal studies, and extended-response science questions all reward clear prose.
Where students get stuck
The gap in English is usually not reading ability but critical analysis — understanding how texts work, not just what they say. Students often plateau at Band 4 or a C because they haven't been taught to unpack techniques, structure arguments, and develop sophisticated thesis statements.
How a tutor helps
An English tutor can work through one essay at a time with the student — editing it with them, explaining what's working and what isn't, and teaching the patterns that examiners actually reward. Most students lift at least one grade band within a term of regular sessions.

Can an English tutor help with my child's specific texts?
Yes. Our tutors work with whatever texts your child is studying — from primary novel studies to HSC prescribed texts like 1984, Hamlet, and Past the Shallows, to VCE comparative pairs. Say which texts you need support with in your first message and the tutor will tell you if they know them.
My child is a good reader but bad at essay writing. Is tutoring the right fit?
