The short answer
Tutors in Australia set their own prices, so there's no standard rate. In November 2026, the nine tutors listed in our Find a tutor set prices from A$60 to A$85 an hour, with A$75 in the middle. That's a small group, mostly maths tutors. One lesson a week at A$75 comes to A$750 over a 10-week term. Check for fees on top of the hourly price, because some services charge families separately.

Search for what a tutor costs and you'll find a lot of different answers, most of them from companies quoting their own prices. We looked for a neutral source of Australian tutoring rates and couldn't find one, so this guide doesn't give you a national average. It gives you the real prices we can see, what moves them, and how to work out what tutoring would cost your family.
